Mic test, right in your browser.
Click start, allow the microphone and talk. The bars show your live level, and you get a plain verdict: too quiet, good or too loud. You can record 5 seconds and play it back. Everything stays in this browser tab, so nothing is uploaded.
Audio stays in this tab. Nothing is recorded to a server.

Questions
Is this mic test private?
Yes. The sound is measured inside your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and the playback clip is deleted when you close the tab.
Why can't the test hear my microphone?
Your browser may have blocked it. Allow the microphone from the icon in the address bar. On a Mac, also check System Settings, Privacy and Security, Microphone.
What level is best for dictation?
Aim for bars that move clearly when you talk at a normal volume without hitting the top. If the test says too loud, move back a little.
